Peculiarities and limitations of using Acronis True Image corporate products with tape drives

Corporate versions of the Acronis True Image product line support tape drives as storage media.

Working with Acronis True Image and tape drives has its own specifics. The basic points can be listed as the following:
  • One can save one full image to a tape drive
  • One can use two or more tapes for one backup. Acronis True Image will prompt to insert next tape when the first one is full.
  • One can save an incremental image to a tape drive
  • One can save a differential image to a tape drive
  • One can schedule backup to a tape drive (one can force overwriting data on tape)

  • One can restore an image from a tape drive

  • One can restore files and folders from an image on the tape drive

  • One can validate an image on the tape drive
  • One can work with tape drives both in Windows and from Standalone Version of Acronis True Image Products
  • One can not mount an image from a tape drive
  • One can not save two or more full images to a tape drive

  • One can not give name to an image saved to a tape drive
  • One can not copy an image from a tape drive to hard disk drive or other media by means of Acronis True Image
  • Acronis True Image does not support Tape Autoloading and Shuffling mechanisms, Barcode printers and Tape libraries.

If a corporate version of Acronis True Image does not detect a tape drive in Windows, then please do the following:

  • Download the archive
  • Unpack the archive to C:\
  • Start the command prompt (Start -> Run -> cmd)
  • Run the following command:
  • c:\tapes.exe > c:\tapes.txt

  • Send the C:\tapes.txt to Acronis Customer Central along with your request
