Acronis True Image Deluxe

Acronis True Image Deluxe. APC Magazine (Australia). PDF

As the name would suggest, True Image Deluxe from Acronis is for creating images of either an entire hard drive or single partition. It runs natively from within Windows and has a nice interface, but in terms of speed can't match the likes of Image Sheriff.

The interface has a very familiar feel to it, and looks similar to a Windows XP themed window. A wizard guides the user through creating an image file, asking questions pertaining to which drive or partition you want to make an image of and whether the image file should be compressed or split. After the image is created, True Image will prompt the user to create a boot disk, so images can be restored from the DOS command prompt.

Restoration of an image is just as easy, as the same wizard is used to initiate the restoration process. Simply select a target drive or partition and True Image will do the rest. If you want to restore only selected parts of an image, say a certain file or folder, True Image can virtually mount the image. This allows the user to browse through the image and select what they would like restored.

True Image performed flawlessly under testing, and all data transferred was intact and an exact duplicate of the source hard drive. The wizard does a great job guiding the user through the whole process, but in terms of documentation, True Image was a little lacking. Thankfully, the Acronis Web site is full of useful information and helpful tips.
